Crows Nest Accommodation

The Crows Nest sits just 100 metres from the Otago Central Rail Trail at Oturehua, in the heart of Central Otago. Established more than 20 years ago when the Rail Trail was still in its infancy, it offers camping sites, backpacker bunkroom beds and self-contained cabins for cyclists, walkers and travellers exploring the valley.

The name comes from an early guest in the bunkhouse, who said that climbing the steps to the bedroom area felt like going up to the "crow's nest" on a ship. Today it remains a relaxed, no-fuss base for anyone riding or walking the trail, with easy access to the Ida Valley and the surrounding Central Otago high country.
