“The Cherry Farm” is a 5 hectare lifestyle block on Woodbank Rd and its handy location makes it one of the closest to Hanmer Springs village centre. The iconic name was carefully chosen by its owners JJ Sandall & Mel Elliott as it represents the launch of “Hanmer Springs Cherries” and is also rich in history as this was the cherry orchards name that they previously owned in Marlborough. With JJ’s parents being one of the first Cherry pioneers in Marlborough, he has been actively involved in the industry all his life and going on to lease his own orchard at a ripe young age of 17. He also did a 2 year stint in the United States working in development, research, volume and scale in the well known Cherry regions of Washington State & Yakima Valley. The couple have developed the family orchard with over 3000 trees and 4 varieties in the beautiful picturesque alpine village of Hanmer Springs as it offers similar growing environment to the United States, Central Otago & Marlborough. The external environment offers the right sweet to acid balance providing the perfect sweet, tasty and fresh Cherry. During the Cherry season JJ & Mel open their orchard gates to offer the true experience and family fun activity of Pick Your Own fresh Cherries in a tranquil country setting. An experience enjoyable by young and old. They also offer gate sales in a range of sizes where you will also see their daughters Nikita & Lexi actively helping in the family run orchard.
