2023

Looking Back, Moving Forward; Bring on 2023

It’s that time of year again when we reflect on the past 12 months and look ahead to 2023. For many Kiwi businesses, the past year has undoubtedly been filled with challenges and obstacles, from a slow and painful recovery from the pandemic to economic uncertainty. But despite these challenges, New Zealand businesses have proven to be resilient, adaptable, and innovative.

In the face of unprecedented challenges, businesses have had to think outside the box and develop creative solutions to stay afloat. Many have turned to technology and digital platforms like our Business Directory to reach customers and keep their operations going. Others have pivoted their business models or shifted their focus to meet the changing needs of their customers.

One thing that has become clear over the past year is the importance of community and support. New Zealand businesses have relied on the support of their local communities, and many have stepped up to support each other and give back to their communities in meaningful ways.

Taking Stocks

Before the year finally winds to a close, it’s a good time for businesses to reflect on the past year and plan for the future. How did your business do in 2022? This is a crucial time for business owners to review their performance, assess their goals, highlight any areas of the business that have been particularly successful, as well as any challenges that the business has faced and overcome and make any necessary adjustments to their business strategies.

  1. Financial performance. One important aspect of this reflection is reviewing your business’s financial performance, including key metrics like revenue, profit, or customer growth. Take a close look at your income and expenses, and determine if you are on track to meet your financial goals. This is also an excellent time to review your pricing strategy and ensure you are charging enough to cover your costs and generate a profit.
  2. Customers happiness. Another key area to focus on is your customers. Take some time to evaluate your customer base, and identify any trends or changes that have occurred over the past year. This will help you understand your customers better and tailor your products and services to meet their needs.
  3. Marketing and advertising. It’s also a good idea to review your marketing and advertising efforts. Consider what has worked well in the past and what could be improved. This is a great opportunity to try out new marketing channels or strategies and see if they can help you reach more customers and drive more sales.
  4. Accomplishments. A review of the business’s significant achievements and milestones from the past year. This could include things like launching a new product or service, expanding into new markets, or hitting a substantial sales or revenue target. An update on any major changes or developments within the business, such as new hires, promotions, or restructuring. This is a chance to showcase the hard work and dedication of the business’s team members and highlight any key accomplishments they have made.
  5. Business strategy. Take some time to assess your overall business strategy. Are you still on track to achieve your long-term goals? If not, what changes do you need to make to get back on track? This is a good time to revisit your business plan and make necessary adjustments. By taking the time to assess your performance and make any necessary changes, you can set yourself up for success in the coming year.

It’s impossible to predict exactly what 2023 holds. But one thing is certain: businesses will continue to play a crucial role in the economy and the fabric of our communities. As we move forward, it will be important for businesses to continue to adapt and innovate and receive the support they need to thrive.

Here’s to a bright future for your business!
