Founded by stone artist and sculptor Amie Redpath, Amie Redpath Artist is a contemporary stone carving practice based in Te Tai Tokerau, Aotearoa New Zealand. Working primarily in hard stone
- including andesite, basalt, granite, pounamu, argillite and agate
- the practice creates sculptural objects, jewellery, architectural works and functional forms that sit between art, ritual and daily use. With over a decade of carving experience, Amie is known for works that honour both material integrity and storytelling. Her process is deeply informed by the geology of Aotearoa, coastal environments, ancestral symbolism, and the relationship between people, place and time. Each piece is shaped through a responsive carving approach that listens to the stone rather than forcing it, allowing natural structure, tension and character to guide the final form. The studio has produced bespoke works for collectors, galleries, architects, designers and leading hospitality spaces throughout New Zealand. Early collaborations with acclaimed chefs and restaurants led to the development of a signature range of stone mortars, vessels, tapas plates and serving objects that combine sculptural presence with functionality. These works have since evolved into larger sculptural and architectural explorations, including commissioned installations and collaborative design projects. Alongside commercial and commissioned practice, Amie continues to develop exhibition-based sculptural works exploring themes of resilience, sovereignty, memory, navigation, fragility and endurance. Recurring motifs within the work include seaweed buoyancy forms, oceanic references, ancestral guardians, volcanic landscapes and material traces of the natural world. The practice values slow craftsmanship, longevity and meaningful connection to materials. Works are designed to endure physically and conceptually, carrying a sense of permanence in an increasingly disposable culture. Whether through jewellery, sculpture, public installation or functional objects, the intention is to create pieces that invite presence, reflection and tactile connection. Amie Redpath Artist also contributes to community arts and education through workshops, collaborative projects and creative teaching practices that encourage connection through making, storytelling and shared knowledge.
