Hinewai Reserve is an ecological restoration project in the south-eastern corner of Banks Peninsula, east of Akaroa. It covers 1250 hectares and is privately owned and managed by the Maurice White Native Forest Trust, while remaining freely open to the public on foot. Visitors are welcome to walk the track network at their own risk. Since 2016 the trust has also looked after the adjacent 192 hectare Purple Peak Curry Reserve.
